Firm shortlisted for low carbon award
Innovative partnership recognised
Logistics company Uniserve has been shortlisted for the Low Carbon Award at the Motor Transport Awards 2026.
The company – with a warehouse on Langthwaite Business Park – has been recognised for a highly innovative partnership with a global glass packaging manufacturer. The glass firm has successfully reduced emissions across a complex, high-volume transport operation.
Working in partnership with the client, Uniserve introduced 14 bio-LNG powered HGVs into its Chepstow fleet. It supported the transportation of “live glass” between a production site in Yorkshire, the Chepstow hub and customers in the UK brewing industry.
The initiative was launched at a particularly challenging time for the industry. After the M48 Severn Bridge was closed to HGVs during summer 2025, journey distances increased significantly. As a result, approximately 60 miles were being added to the two-hour round trip.
Despite the operational complexities, Uniserve remained committed to its sustainability objectives and prioritised lower-carbon transport solutions over operational convenience.
Carbon savings
In the 12 months to March 2026, Uniserve’s LNG fleet delivered transformational environmental results:
- Nearly 3,100 tonnes of CO2 saved
- Up to 95% tailpipe CO2 reduction compared with diesel vehicles
- Over 2.5 million miles completed by bio-LNG vehicles
- Approximately 100 tonnes of plastic eliminated
- A further 300 tonnes of CO2 emissions avoided through packaging innovation
The project also saw Uniserve eliminate the need for traditional pallet shrink wrap by introducing compression banding technology, removing around 4.2 million square metres of plastic wrap from the supply chain.
Supporting the environment
A senior logistics representative from the manufacturing partner commented: “Uniserve has implemented new supply chain solutions to service our key customers and deliver against our OTIF targets. The introduction of the LNG fleet enables us to maintain our service offering whilst also supporting our environmental objectives.”
